Standardised on May 17th 1943 the ANJ-4 was the last model flight jacket to be made from sheepskin. As a replacement to the long-standing B-3 design, it did not enjoy such a long period of service; in less than a year it would itself be superseded by a new generation of pile-lined, fabric flight jackets.
However, being the last in the evolutionary line of jackets made from animal skin it benefited in its design from all that had been learned from many years of development. They combined durability with comfort and the result was a flight jacket of outstanding quality.
We have been producing this famous style for more than 25 years, and we feel sure our model is the most authentic available. During its period of production, the ANJ-4 was produced in 3 subtly different versions. In this, our latest and re-vamped model, we have accurately reproduced the 2nd version - noted for having: buttons to pocket flaps and throat-latch; raised zip with 'turn-away' triangular leather fob; pen aperture on topside of left pocket flap and raw-edge backing to pocket flaps.
A characteristic of the wartime jackets is that they have a rugged, broken grain character; using traditional treatments and hand-dye techniques we have recreated this material to an incredible authentic standard. The sheepskin material itself is of North American origin. There are many breeds of sheep throughout the world, each having their own wool characteristic, so it is essential that the pelts used are derived from the correct breed to ensure complete authenticity.
Last but not least, the garment is trimmed out with veg-tanned Horsehide in our fabulous WarHorse® hide.
Ostin takin Ruotsista käytettynä viime keväänä. Vanha omistaja oli käyttänyt takkia jonkin verran muutaman vuoden aikana, mutta mielestäni paksu nahka (etenkin hihojen ja taskujen hevosennahka) ei ole vielä kunnolla pehmentynyt ja muovautunut lopulliseen muotoonsa. Takki on muuten hyvässä kunnossa, mutta oikeassa olkapäässä lampaannahka on hieman repeytynyt ja repeymä on parsittu kiinni (ks. kuva). Lisäksi vetoketjun lukon vastinkappaleen kiinnityskohta on hieman rispaantunut. Käytössä kumpikaan näistä ei kuitenkaan ole ongelma.
Vaikka kooksi onkin merkitty 44, sopii takki mielestäni paremmin L-kokoiselle. Takin selän pituus on 66cm, rintakehä on n. 60cm, ja hihan pituus arviolta 67cm – selvästi normaalin hartialinjan yli menevä hartiasauma hämää tässä, jolloin hihan todellista pituutta voi vain arvioida. Oma rinnanympärykseni on n. 108cm ja vaatekokoni L, ja takki istuu passelisti villapaidan kanssa.
Hintapyyntö 420e 450e. Brexitin jälkeen näiden tilaaminen Briteistä on tolkuttoman kallista, eikä käytettynäkään näitä hirveästi liiku Euroopassa, joten mielestäni hinta on varsin passeli. Takki sijaitsee Turussa, postitus muualle ostajan piikkiin. Sovittaminen onnistuu Turussa.
